2019 Day of Pink

April 10, 2019 marks the International Day of Pink. It is a day where communities across the country, and across the world, can unite in celebrating diversity and raising awareness to stop homophobia, transphobia, transmisogyny, and all forms of bullying.

The Day of Pink is more than just a symbol of a shared belief in celebrating diversity – it’s also a commitment to being open-minded, accepting differences and learning to respect each other.

Students are invited to wear pink to school.

Raising Resilient Kids Workshop: May 2nd 6:30pm

Our children’s lives will be full of challenges. How can we foster and strengthen their resilience and allow them to recover from life’s twists and turns?

Join us THURSDAY MAY 2ND (LIBRARY, 6:30PM) for this FREE workshop hosted by Vivian Pengelly and learn some tools to support our children through their struggle without controlling or overprotecting them. This is an evening not to be missed.

Refreshments and childcare will be provided. RSVP not required.

The council takes great pride in providing these special engagements for our Willy community. We would not have the opportunity to offer these events without the continued support of our families’ donations. Thank you!

2019 Dance-a-thon FAQ

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this awesome fundraiser, here are some FAQs.

What is a dance-a-thon? It is one of Willy’s most popular events. It is a fun day of dancing and movement activities.

When does it take place? Friday, April 5th, 2019

Where does it take place? All day, classes with their teachers, rotate through the Glen Ames gym where the DJ is set up to play music for their designated time slot.

What kind of music is played? We hire a DJ who plays current, age appropriate music (clean versions!). This is a DJ that does this kind of event at many of the schools in our area and has been to our school over the past few years as well.  Make music requests online at www.musicrequest.ca

What do I need to do?  This is a fundraising event; watch your inbox for the cashless notification for donations. If you are fundraising, pledge envelopes are available in the office.

How can I donate? You can make a donation using the TDSB School Cash Online system, or donate on-line at www.professorjamz.com/williamson

What to wear? Be sure to wear your best dancing clothes (white clothes glow in the dark!) and comfortable shoes.  And don’t forget, bring a water bottle!

What are the funds used for? They will be used to support music, arts, science, and more at the school.  Last year we raised almost $3,500!  There will be a prize to the class that raises the most fundraising dollars.

Can I volunteer to help? Yes. Email us.

2019 JuneFest

JuneFest – Saturday June 1st, 2019

What is JuneFest?

On Saturday, June 1st from 11am-3pm, we transform the school’s backyard into a GIANT fun fair with bouncy castles for all ages, carnival games with prizes, face and nail painting, tattoo station, BBQ, class art auction, silent auction + more. It’s our BIGGEST fundraiser of the year and should not be missed. This is a community event and not just for Willy families so invite your friends too!

Wristbands

Access to the event is by wristband only which are $20 per student and $10 for preschoolers. Food is not included with your wristband but everything else is! Wristbands (and food tickets) will go on sale via cashless schools soon. Wristbands and food tickets will also be available for purchase on June 1st (but note, wristbands will increase $25/student).

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

This event goes nowhere without a huge amount of community support (well over 100+ volunteers needed), so please consider lending a hand whenever possible. There are lots of ways to go about this, so please consider signing up for one or more areas of need. More information can be found by following each sign-up links below. There are lots of ways in which your teen can help (and earn volunteer hours) – grandparents too! We very much need help with our silent auction component ASAP – this does NOT involve asking people for pure donations and is quite straightforward but needs to get underway sooner than later.

  • coordinate the set-up of the games with the volunteers on the day of the event

  • you will purchase and deliver all supplies to the school prior to JuneFest (hamburgers/hot dogs/buns/condiments/drinks/plates/napkins etc.)
  • you will oversee and assist with set-up of the BBQ with the other volunteers on the day of the event
  • all expenses are reimbursed by the SAC

Lip Sync Show

Last but not least, the Lip Sync Show! The much anticipated Lip Sync Show will be running again this year and is for all ages. The performers pick their favourite song, hit the stage and wow the audience with their dance moves and lip syncing skills. It’s always a crowd favourite amongst the kids – no prior experience required. Space is limited so don’t delay in signing up your performer.  The link for the sign up is available below.

IMPORTANT NOTE – DUE TO THE POPULARITY OF THIS EVENT, STUDENTS ARE PERMITTED TO BE IN 1 PERFORMANCE ONLY

Silent Auction

Since we started doing the silent auction 2 years ago as part of Junefest, this has proven to be very successful in raising funds for our school. We cannot do it without a village of people!  Firstly, we need donations.  Classrooms will have an opportunity to make donations via school cash online. Also, any donations from your place of work, or to promote your own business, are much appreciated!

Secondly, we need a classroom parent volunteer to represent every room. This person will be responsible for buying an item (or voucher) on behalf of their class, using the donations collected through school cash online. This will take place the week before Junefest. It is a fun and easy task! If you have any questions please email janet.theunissen@gmail.com
