Committees

Willy SAC Committees

Willy SAC events and initiatives are 100% run by parent and caregiver volunteers, with support from school staff – and we can’t do it without you! Some events may not happen this year if we don’t find enough leads and helpers.

We are forming several committees for this year (and beyond!) and we’d love your support! You don’t have to be a Willy SAC council member to join, lead, or co-lead a committee. Sign up for the committee(s) you’re interested in using this form. Many of these committees are newly forming, so leads and helpers will have the chance to help shape how the committee kicks things off and contributes to the event or initiative.

Some committees and events can have co-leads, so you can share the planning and facilitation with another parent or caregiver. Once you’ve signed up, the Willy SAC team will follow up to connect committee members and help get things rolling.

This is your chance to make a real impact – connect with other families, contribute to your school community, and help bring these amazing events to life!

Grant Application

The Grant Application Committee will research and identify funding opportunities, develop project ideas, and prepare applications for grants that support Willy students. Volunteers will:

  • Research and compile potential grant opportunities across all areas of the school
  • Collaborate with Willy SAC and school staff to develop project proposals
  • Draft proposals, including budgets
  • Complete and submit grant applications

Textile Drive

Volunteers will be present on donation day, assist with collecting and organizing drop-off bags for pick-up, liaise with Recycling Rewards, and coordinate with school administration. Your support benefits the school and helps reduce waste! There are typically three (3) Textile Drives per school year.

Gardening

The Gardening Committee will help keep our school grounds vibrant! Volunteers will assist with designing garden spaces, selecting and purchasing seeds and plants, and maintaining the garden boxes and planters at the front of the school. These efforts will help create a welcoming and beautiful environment for our school community.

Sponsorship

Help connect with local businesses to secure sponsorships for school events and initiatives. Opportunities are available for all Willy SAC events, ranging from $100 for smaller events, like the Welcome Back Coffee, or more for larger events, such as DJ Mike. Sponsors would be featured on event flyers in social media posts and school newsletters, giving them visibility within the school community while supporting meaningful programs for students.

Are you a local business interested in sponsoring an event? Please contact us at info@willysac.ca.

Willy Reads

Join us in supporting Willy Reads, our annual Reading Challenge! Volunteers will play a key role in encouraging students to read every day, tracking reading logs, and helping ensure the challenge runs smoothly. You’ll assist with collecting and reviewing completed logs, helping students stay motivated, and supporting prize distribution for participants. This is a great way to foster a love of reading, celebrate student achievements, and make reading fun for all Willy students!

Parent Social

Be part of creating a memorable night out for Willy parents and caregivers! Volunteers help with planning and organizing the event, including setting up the space, creating and managing the music playlist, coordinating games and activities, assisting with door prizes, and supporting cleanup afterward. This is a fun way to engage with the school community while helping ensure an enjoyable, stress-free evening for everyone attending. These efforts help make this adult-only night out a success!

Special Feature Lunches

Help bring exciting lunch options to our students while taking the burden off parents and caregivers! Volunteers will assist with coordinating special feature lunches from local businesses such as Subway, Hero Burger, and more. Responsibilities include contacting the businesses, developing order options, coordinating with the school/Willy SAC to get the lunches set up on School Cash Online, receiving orders on lunch day, and organizing volunteers to distribute lunches to students in their classrooms. This committee will support school fundraising while ensuring students enjoy delicious, hassle-free meals!

Kindie Bike Rodeo

Be part of the team that brings the Kindie Bikie Rodeo to life! Committee volunteers help plan and organize the event, including coordinating with 55 Division to schedule their bike safety visit to the school, liaising with school administration to set the event date and schedule, and managing logistics for the day itself. Your efforts ensure students have a safe, fun, and memorable experience riding their bikes, trikes, and scooters while enjoying decorations, games, and a freezie pit stop. Join us to help make this beloved event a success for our youngest Willy Wildcats!

DJ Mike

Help us plan and organize the ultimate year-end celebration for the Willy students! Committee volunteers coordinate all aspects of the DJ Mike Dance Party, including contacting and booking DJ Mike, scheduling the event with school administration, purchasing and organizing freezies, and recruiting volunteers to assist with freezie distribution on the day of the party. Your efforts help create a fun, safe, and memorable celebration for students as they wrap up the school year with music, dancing, and plenty of laughs!

2SLGBTQIA+

Help create a welcoming and inclusive school community. The committee would plan events and raise awareness around 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion, such as:

  • International Day of Pink
  • Pride events & celebrations
  • Awareness campaigns and more

Bring your enthusiasm, ideas, and commitment to making Willy a safe and supportive space for all.

JuneFest

Be part of the team that brings Junefest – the most eagerly anticipated event of the year for Willy students – to life! Committee volunteers will help organize this exciting end-of-year celebration, which is also one of the school’s biggest fundraisers alongside pizza lunches. Responsibilities include coordinating and supporting subcommittees for Sponsorships, Volunteers, Food & Beverage, Carnival Games, Prize Tent, Silent Auction, and the Bake Sale; recruiting and organizing volunteers; contacting local businesses for sponsorships and silent auction donations; and overseeing food and activity logistics.

You can also choose to join any specific subcommittee that interests you! Your efforts help create an unforgettable afternoon of carnival games, bouncy castles, face painting, bake sales, and more, ensuring a fun and memorable celebration for our students and families.

Staff Appreciation Lunch

The committee would help make this event happen by contributing in a variety of ways, including: recruiting families to contribute dishes, drinks, or desserts, assisting with setup and decorating, helping with serving and cleanup, coordinating the event to ensure everything runs smoothly. Committee members and volunteers don’t need to bring items themselves – their support in organizing, connecting with others, and helping on the day of the event makes a meaningful impact.

This is a great way to connect with other families and show appreciation for the staff who support Willy students every day.

Grade 6 Graduation (comprised of Grade 5 parents/caregivers)

Be part of making the Grade 6 Graduation a memorable celebration! Committee members help with a variety of tasks leading up to the event in June, including coordination and organizing, purchasing materials and decorations, and set-up on the day of the event.

Bonus: Committee members receive VIP seats for their own child’s graduation next year!

Safe School

The Safe School Committee will work collaboratively with school administration and staff to support a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment. This committee is in line with TDSB guidelines, which recommend that each school have a Safe School Committee with staff and at least one parent representative.

The committee’s main goal is to review the School Code of Conduct and Progressive Discipline Policy, providing input and guidance to ensure school policies are clear, effective, and aligned with best practices. Committee members will also build on the framework established in the Parent Handbook to support students and families.

Committee members have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful discussions and help foster a safe, positive school culture at Willy.
